The origins of Intersex Awareness Day

Intersex advocates and activists today are able to do what we do because of the extraordinary courage of some intersex activists in demonstrating against the American Academy of Pediatrics, and making the abuse of  intersex people at the hands of clinical authority public for the first time.

The story of those momentous events, and how it came to be commemorated every year on 26th October  is eloquently told by one of the people who was part of making that day a publicly acknowledged event.

Betsy Driver’s story was originally published for Intersex Day , and is reproduced here to help share with a wider readership.
